More Players Mod

How to Fish officially supports lobbies of up to eight players through Patch 1.0.4. This wiki cannot currently verify a maintained mod that safely expands that official limit, so it does not provide an installation link or recommend an unconfirmed larger-lobby claim.

01Start from the official eight-player limit

The Steam store summary still calls How to Fish a one-to-four-player physics-based fishing simulator with online co-op, but official Patch 1.0.4 later added support for lobbies of up to eight players. The newer patch is the stronger record for the current released build. A normal unmodified session can therefore include up to eight players.

An eighth-player join is now an official setting question, not proof that a mod is required. Patch 1.0.5 also permits private invite-only lobbies and changing the session type in the in-game server settings; a session-type change needs a restart. If a player cannot join, use the Steam relay diagnostic added in Patch 1.0.9, then update to Patch 1.0.11: the developer lists a fix for an inventory-on-join bug that could make players invisible.

02An 8-player mod is no longer the baseline

The supplied material describes an 8-player BepInEx plugin, but a mod is no longer needed to reach the official cap. A check of the referenced Nexus game path did not independently confirm that specific upload. That mismatch is enough to withhold a download recommendation until the author, file and canonical URL can be verified together.

This does not prove that an 8-player mod can never exist or that a larger-lobby mod is impossible. It is a verification result about the evidence currently available to this wiki. A useful safety page distinguishes an unverified claim from a confirmed compatibility result instead of treating either as definitive.

03Do not treat a technical description as a security review

A mod description can name frameworks, patches and installation folders without proving that its binary is safe, current or compatible with the installed game. Community modifications can change when the game updates, and networking changes can affect more than the official eight-player limit. A long technical explanation is not a substitute for a traceable source and an independently checkable file.

This page therefore does not repeat DLL paths, runtime patch names or setup steps from the unverified listing. Reproducing them would make the page look actionable while lending confidence to a file we cannot confirm. Keep the installation boundary closed until the source is real, current and tested beyond the official lobby cap.

04What would make a mod record publishable

A publishable record needs the author’s canonical release page, a direct file URL, the mod version, the How to Fish game build tested and an update date. It should state the required loader, whether every participant needs the same version and the tested player count above the official cap. Those are evidence fields, not promises that the mod will work for every group.

A useful community test report would add the lobby size tested, host and client setup, join and reconnect behavior, quest behavior and a reproducible issue log. Screenshots or short footage should show the game version and player count. With that record, the wiki can describe scope and risks without copying a promotional mod page.

05Use the safe route today

For now, create ordinary sessions with up to eight players through the official lobby support in Patch 1.0.4. Do not download a file simply because its title claims a larger cap or because it names a familiar modding framework. Treat any claim above eight players as unverified until the file and its compatibility record can be checked together.

This status page is intentionally more conservative than an installation guide. It gives players a direct answer, names the current evidence gap and prevents a search result from becoming an implied endorsement. That is more valuable than padded setup instructions when the source record is incomplete.

What this guide can confirm

  • Official Patch 1.0.4 adds support for lobbies of up to eight players; the older Steam store summary still uses one-to-four-player wording.
  • Official Patch 1.0.5 adds private lobbies and session-type changes, while Patch 1.0.9 adds a Steam relay diagnostic. Patch 1.0.10 increases the time allowed to connect, and Patch 1.0.11 lists a fix for invisible players after joining; the supplied larger-lobby mod listing remains unverified.
